2002 Opus One
Opus One thinned the 2002 vintage to the lowest per acre yield in a
decade, encouraging quality and concentration of flavors. The 2002 Opus
One shows aromas of dried strawberry , vanilla bean and mocha with
flavors of cassis, black cherry, plum and espresso. Offering a lean, vibrant
entry with profound mid palate density, the wine finishes with bittersweet
chocolate and a hint of smoke.
The 2002 Opus is composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot 3%
Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec, and 2% Petit Verdot. During fermentation and
maceration component lots received an average of 32 days of skin contact
prior to 20 months of barrel aging in New French Oak.
2001 Opus One
Vintage 2001 produced small, concentrated berries and an excellent,
unhurried harvest. The 2001 Opus One shows aromas of black current,
black cherry, liqueur, plum, and fresh vanilla, with ihnts of graham cracker
and black peppercorn. A supple, creamy entry is followed by intense flavors
of ripe black cherry, cassis, and dark chocolate, finishing with lingering
black fruit and savory spice.
The 2001 Opus One is composed of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot,
3% Malbec, 2% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. During fermentation
and maceration component lots received an average of 32 days of skin
contact prior to 17 months of barrel aging in New French Oak.
